  • What is IELTS?
    • IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is jointly managed by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, British Council and IDP:IELTS Australia. It covers the four language skills - listening, reading, writing and speaking.
  • Which Module should I choose, Academic or General Training?
    • The Academic Module is the best choice if you are planning to use English to study at an undergraduate or postgraduate level.

      The General Training Module is suitable for candidates who are going to English speaking countries to complete their secondary education, to undertake work experience or training programmes not at degree level, or for immigration purposes to Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

      It is the candidate's responsibility to select the test module. If in doubt, contact the organisation you are applying to and ask for its requirements.
  • How do I check whether there are still seats available for the test sessions?
    • Candidates may call Examinations Services Department in Bangkok (66 2) 657 5678 or in Chiang Mai (66 53) 242 103 to check availability during office hours. Places are available on a first-come first-served basis during the registration period.
  • Where is the test venue?
    • The Landmark Hotel in Bangkok and Kanteray Hill Hotel in Chiang Mai. You will also receive a confirmation of the test venue on your reqistration date.
  • When will I receive the Exam details?
    • The Exam details are described on Registration Guide. If you have further enquiries, please contact us (66 2) 657 5678 for Bangkok and (66 53 242 103) for Chiang Mai or no later than three days before the test. You can also view and print the information on our online system under the 'My Test' section after login.
  • How can I prepare for the test?
      1. Self Practice: After you have registered for the IELTS test and your payment is confirmed we will provide you "Access Code for Road to IELTS" (IELTS Practice Online), "Learning Lounge Ticket".       2. IELTS Preparation Course: British Council is offering variety of courses that can meet your demands; Strategies for IELTS, IELTS Pathway, IELTS Preparation and IELTS Extension Skills.
  • What should I pay attention to on the test day?
    • Late comers are not admitted on the test day. You must arrive at the test venue at 8.15am.

      You must show your ID document (e.g. ID card or passport). You must bring the same form of ID document that you indicated on your application form. This is the only form of identity that will be accepted on the test day.

      The only items you can take into the examination room are your identity document, the deposit ticket... Pencils and erasers will be provided. All other personal belongings (including stationery, papers, mobile phones, beepers and personal valuables) must be placed in the designated area outside the examination room.
  • Can I postpone or cancel my test after the registration?
    • Yes. Postponement/cancellation must be made 35 days (5 weeks) prior to the scheduled test date. A postponement fee of THB 800 or a cancellation fee of THB 1,400 will be charged in any circumstances.

      Candidates will be asked to submit:
    • request form (Postpone Form/Cancellation Form)
    • original receipt
    • bank details (saving account) - for cancellation request only

  • When are test results available?
    • Please note that candidates will be sent only one copy of the Test Report Form.

      You can collect the original TRF from test centre 13 days after the test date. You must bring a proof of identity (original passport or Thai ID Card only.) Uncollected TRFs will be mailed to candidates 17 days after test date by Express Mail Service.

      You can authorise a friend or relative to collect the result from our Customer Services department on your behalf at no additional cost. A copy of your proof of identity and a signed letter of authority must be gicen to our staff.

      You can view your results online on the afternoon of the 13th day after the test. The system will not display results older than 28 days after the test.
  • How is the overall band score calculated?
    • Overall Band Scores and scores for each sub-test are reported in whole bands or half bands. Each of the sub-test scores is equally weighted. The Overall Band Score is calculated by taking the mean of the total of the four individual sub-test scores.
  • How long is the result valid?
    • The IELTS test partners recommend that receiving organisations do not accept a TRF that is more than two years old. It is the decision of the receiving organisation, not the IELTS test partners, if they accept an older TRF. No letters or references endorsing a candidate's level of English can be provided.
  • Can I have more than one copy of the IELTS Test Report Form (TRF)?
    • No. Only one copy of the TRF is sent to the IELTS candidate.
  • Can I send my IELTS results to institutions after the test?
    • Yes. You can also apply for further copies of the Test Report Form for a period of two years from the test date.

      Candidates can request the British Council to send an extra TRF to institutions/universities directly. Candidates will be asked to fill in a Request Extra Copy Form and pay an administration fee of THB 500 per copy plus postage at British Council Siam Square for Bangkok examination centre and at British Council Chiang Mai for Chiang Mai examination centre. The British Council is unable to issue TRFs for test results beyond two years.
  • Can I request another Test Report Form (TRF) if I've lost mine?
    • NO. Only one copy of the TRF is sent to the IELTS candidate. Our centre offers to send further copies of Test Report Form on behalf of the candidate to the institutions.
  • What can I do if I am unhappy with my results?
    • You may apply for an enquiry on results (EOR) within six weeks of the test date. The fee is THB 5,100. Your test material is forwarded to the UK for re-marking. It takes eight weeks from receipt of the candidate's exam materials in the UK before you are notified of the re-mark results. After re-marking, the enquiry fee will be refunded if the result is changed.
  • Can I retake the test?
    • Yes, you may take the test as many times as you wish.
